Wikicurious: Country Music's Mythology (north carolina)

March 25th, 2026

Wikicurious: Country Music's Mythology, hosted by the North Carolina Wikipedians, the Center for the Study of the American South, and UNC-Chapel Hill University Libraries was held at the historic Love House in Chapel Hill. Attendees went behind the scenes of Southern Cultures latest playlist, "Country Is All In Your Heart," which drew a line from timeless icons to emerging artists across the genre's geographic, racial, and cultural borders. This work list focused on up-and-coming voices beyond mainstream radio, alongside an archival exhibit celebrating 100 years of the Grand Ole Opry. The highlight of the event w a talk asby Rissi Palmer, the founder of the Color Me Country artist fund, and the first Black woman to earn a Billboard country chart hit in decades.

Wikicurious: WNC Women's History Month Edit-a-thon (North Carolina)

March 24th, 2026

The Wikicurous: WNC Women's History Month Edit-a-thon, hosted at the Buncombe County Special Collections Library in Asheville, focused on amplifying the stories of Appalachian artists, writers, and creators—particularly women, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals often overlooked in the region's historical record. Librarians were on hand to guide editors through the process, with local special collections available as research resources.

Wikicurious: The History of Austin, Texas

March 9th, 2026

Wikicurious returned to the Austin Public Library during SXSW edu. This event focused on Austin's local history, with experts from the library and the Austin History Center sharing archival resources and local artifacts, and Austin Typewriter Ink. on hand with vintage typewriters. The event honored both Wikipedia's 25th anniversary and Austin Public Library's centennial celebrations.

WikiHaus @ Sundance: Get Wikicurious (Park City, utah)

January 23, 2026

Held in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival, this Wikipedia 25th birthday celebration was co-hosted with WikiPortraits at WikiHaus. This event brought together Utah Wikimedians, film enthusiasts, and curious newcomers to learn how Wikipedia works, including how films and public figures get their pages. WikiPortraits Studio was on-site, taking professional headshots for upload to Wikimedia Commons. Guests also networked, played WikiAsteroids, and tried out Wikireceipt printing.

Wikicurious at Austin Public Library (Texas)

November 2nd, 2025

Wikicurious at Austin Public Library, co-hosted with Austin Public Library at their downtown Central Library branch, brought editors together to improve Texas and Austin-focused Wikipedia articles, with a seasonal nod to Allhallowtide, Day of the Dead, and Halloween, timed to the event's early November date.

Wikicurious - Editing to the Beat Miami

August 30th, 2025

Wikicurious: Editing to the Beat returned, this time in Miami, and co-hosted with WikiLatinos and the Miami-Dade Public Library. Guests were brought together to improve Wikipedia’s coverage of Caribbean and Latin music in both English and Spanish. The event featured a special appearance by Tito Puente Jr., an open-spin session where guests were able to play music from a selection of archived records, resources and merch from the Latin Recording Academy, a beginner-friendly Latin dance class from Karibe Dance Studios, and board games from Latinegras. Additional partners included Afro-Latin@ Forum, International Salsa Museum, Poderistas, and Pérez Art Museum Miami.

Wikicurious: Rewriting the Canvas on Wikipedia (Charlotte, North Carolina)

July 2nd, 2025

Wikicurious: Rewriting the Canvas, co-hosted with the North Carolina Wikipedians User Group at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, focused on closing content gaps in Wikipedia's coverage of Black American music and visual art. Led by Dr. Amy Carleton of MIT and the Black Notes Project, the event gave attendees the tools to create and improve articles on underrepresented figures. Attendees spread out across the museum to edit among the art, with a DJ spinning music.

Wikicurious: Editing Health Innovation on Wikipedia (Dallas, TEXAS)

May 15th, 2025

Wikicurious: Editing Health Innovation on Wikipedia, was held in partnership with Health Wildcatters, a top-ranked seed accelerator in Dallas. This gathering aimed to improve health-related content on Wikipedia at a moment when misinformation was/is especially prevalent. The event featured a fireside chat with Dallas-based journalist and Wikipedian Stephen Harrison on the importance of accurate health information online, and hands-on editing training led by Richard Knipel, Wikimedian in Residence at CUNY.

Wikicurious: Amplifying Media Art (NYC)

May 10th, 2025

Wikicurious: Amplifying Media Art was held during the "Community Memory" weekend of Rhizome World, a festival organized by the international hub for new media art. Guests gathered to improve Wiki coverage of media art at the New Museum. The event featured resources from the Cybernetics Library, an artist-run browsing library and practice collective exploring cybernetics in the expanded field and the reciprocal embeddedness of techno-social systems and contemporary society.

Wikicurious: Pi Day at SXSW in Austin, TeXas

March 14th, 2025

Wikicurious: Pi Day was held at WikiHaus and co-hosted with WikiPortraits during South by Southwest in Austin. This program leaned into the holiday by having attendees edit Wikipedia articles about pi, pie, and everything in between, alongside Texas and Austin-focused articles, making it a local and a little nerdy celebration of free knowledge.

Wikicurious: Navigating Wiki as a Public Figure (NYC)

March 2nd, 2025

Wikicurious: Navigating Wiki as a Public Figure, co-hosted with Black Lunch Table in Union Square, was aimed at artists and cultural workers who wanted to understand how Wikipedia works—particularly those who'd noticed their own pages were missing, outdated, or inaccurate. The training covered notability, how Wikipedia articles are created and corrected, navigating disputes, and how to add images on Wikimedia Commons, with a portrait photo booth on-site so attendees could leave with a photo ready to upload.

Wikicurious: Capturing the Moment (NYC)

November 26th, 2024

Wikicurious: Capturing the Moment, co-hosted with WikiPortraits and AfroCrowd at the Jefferson Market Library in Greenwich Village, focused on the art and practice of contributing photos to Wikimedia Commons. Participants experienced a neighborhood photo walk where they captured images and then learned how to upload them onto Wikimedia Commons.

Wikicurious: Editing to the Beat (NYC)

Wikicurious: Editing to the Beat brought together music aficionados to improve Wikipedia articles on Caribbean and Latin music genres (salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, and more) with a live band performance at Lehman College. Co-hosted with WikiLatinos and supported by Equis, the Celia Cruz Foundation, and the International Museum of Salsa, the event was a bilingual space welcoming editors of both English and Spanish Wikipedia.

Wikicurious: Editing Wikipedia for Beginners was our launch event, held at Civic Hall in NYC. Current Wikipedia editors and beginners/aspiring-editors were invited. From there, Wikicurious was born and the rest is Wikipedia history.
